Default Motor Swap

Picked up an 03 f150 4x4 with the 4.6 The chain guide had broken in the engine and the guy had done quite a bit of driving like that. So after pulling the valve cover and inspecting the cam it is pretty messed up.

So I am planning to just swap out the engine. My question is should I stick with the 4.6 or go with a 5.4. Also what years are the best for this swap?

When ever you do a motor swap, it's always best to stick with the same size motor and as close to the same year as the old one. The bolt up is simple but the electrical harnesses and the computer programing is more difficult. Not impossible but difficult. $800 is not bad for that motor if it really has 45K miles. Tough to verify that info.

Ended up getting a 4.6 from a 2007 crown vic. I know I have to swap over the intake manifold and the timing cover so everything bolts up. My question is should I swap oil pans as they look almost identical. Also the crown motor has what looks like an oil cooler attached to the oil filter housing. The truck doesn't have one. Should I add on to the truck and hook into there or can I swap the filter housing from one to the other? Thanks for all the help. Can't wait to start driving this one
