Default Intake Filter's

We recentally made a family trip to iowa and took my tuck along for the ride....well in process of driving on dirt roads constantly my intake filter has become riddled with dust. What is the best way to clean an air filter.... inside-out, out-side in? Also possibly what solution would be the best to clean the air filter wit...if anyone knows that is, or do people these days just buy new filters

NO!! Do not use compressed air to clean an air filter. You run the risk of blownig a hole in it... Best thing to do if its stock is replace it. Personally I would get a K&N filter for it. I don't know what year your truck is, I have a K&N from a 2005 4.6 I will sell you if it will fit your truck. If you want a new one got to Oreilly's or Advance and get one. That might be just as cheap as buying mine with shipping.

NGM, has a valid point compressed air can be harmful. Too answer your question, most installations pull air in from the outside. Look at your installation and see how yours works. Most literature out there will tell you to tap the filter to dislodge the particles. If your installation pulls from outside in then go backwards.

If it's a paper element - replace it and be glad that the filter did its job.

At a minimum, rap the filter to knock the dirt off, being careful not to introduce dust or dirt to the clean (manifold) side of the filter. Agree that pressure mediums such as compressed air or water jets should never be used.

Filters are 'dirt' cheap as compared to the alternative when they can't do their job.
