Dang! A lot of guys who know wayyy more than me. I'll be honest 99% of this stuff has gone right over my head but it's good to know if I have questions there's plenty of people to help out!

Hopefully my dealer can get this sorted once and for all. Whether it's an easy swap or not I am still disappointed because as I said they said it was no problem and after I paid and pointed out the differences only then was it explained that it is not a simple plug and play mod. We'll see what happens......

Just a quick question, when you purchased the truck you should have signed a form that states what they promised you in addition to the truck. This is where they put dealer add ons that are not already installed when you purchase. I.E: you wanted the all weather mats but they were not ordered in the truck from factory, dealer agrees to throw them in after purchase.

Your radio promise would be one of those, if you put it on that form you have grounds to return the vehicle. I bought a car once and the salesman dented in the fender when getting gas. They said they could repair with no filler / bondo. I made them put that in the paperwork, and two weeks after I purchased they admitted they had to use bondo to fix it. So they were forced to purchased the car back from me and I got another one, with no loss to me.

Might want to check into that if they can't replace the radio, you purchased with the understanding they would add it in.

Never knew that! Honestly that's really tempting if they can't fix it. Maybe this isn't so bad after all....

That is correct.

I am aware of 3 people that can do this in the USA. 4dtech which charges $1200 for a replacement APIM with map SD card....An audio shop in Dalllas which charges $900 and only does in person upgrades and myself which I have the cheapest rates. I always say it is best to upgrade the existing APIM in the vehicle rather than replacing it.

Default Apim

I was told I had to replace my apim to ad nav and camera. However I have a 2012 XLT with base radio. I added a Kenwood DNN990 Nav/stereo unint. It came with all dash plates, added all options including Garmin Nav. Camera works front and rear and sync works. Did not have to reprogram anything took a coupe of hours to remove old radio and replace with new unit. Most people can't tell Ford unit from Kenwood unit. Have had this installed over a year with no problems. Got the radio and instructions from Crutchfield.com.
