Consumer Reports on the F150
Just saw on the news Consumer Reports rates the Tundra as the most reliable truck and does not recommend the F150 any longer due to too many issues. I only caught the tail end of the report and do not subscribe to CR. Did anyone see this info? I am curious as to why. With so many new F150's vs. Tundras out there probably part of it. No issues with mine and am very happy with it!

I could see that. Changing up the models and processes can lead to more issues to resolve. I have not paid much attention to CR in many years though. Even if that were the case, the Tundra was scratched off my list for a number of reasons. That would not have swayed me at all, but it may for some people.

Beer, Boats, and Trucks.
Lol a pencil is pretty reliable too, pretty old tech though if you ask me!
The Tundra is a very safe bet since it hasn't changed in over a decade.

I have just over 8k miles on my '16 with absolutely zero issues. My transmission is a little jerky going from drive to reverse (I back in everywhere) but I doubt there's an issue there.
I'm assuming the CR was going off the 2015 F150? I can see them having some issues there as it's the first year of a complete re-design. Every manufacturer has issues the first year or two with re-designs, it's not just Ford. I would have considered a Tundra if it wasn't $10k more than what I paid for my Ford with the exact same equipment.

I don't hear of many (if any) issues with the Tundra. The only issue I've ever really heard with them was the weak tailgates that crumpled when you put a load on them. But that was 10 yrs ago.
I wouldn't really call it old tech either, the only things it's really missing would be an 8 speed and a limited slip diff.

I think Consumer Reports named the F-150 truck of the year this past March. It wouldn't surprise me though--quality on the F-150 is horrid. I think many people on here want to attack, bash, or dismiss anyone who says something negative about the F-150. Ford gives a lot of people to be upset for a reason. I am at the point in my life where I could buy any truck I wanted and I chose Ford. Ultimately, I love the features of the F-150 but the quality just isn't there. I don't want Ford to lose sales and I don't want to continually bash them. I want them to listen and fix these things.
Quality is affecting quite a few companies though. I had a Civic and as Consumer Reports state, the reliability has tanked. My wife had a Subaru and the quality had also dropped significantly.

CR hasn't recommended the Jeep Wrangler in years, and actually warns people against buying them. Buy Jeep dealerships sell them quickly. Actual drivers just don't care about the issues that CR complains about. I didn't see the F150 video, but the complaint about the Jeep is the ride quality, tire noise, wind noise, and lack of tech inside. Wrangler drivers really don't care about any of that.

I think there definitely are people that don't care about the issues raised by Consumer Reports. A bigger population have no idea of the issues, don't do research, and buy the vehicle they want. Major issues - like crash test results on the national news - are unknown by many. Some even come on the site and ask if they can cut off safety items or bend them out of the way.
Consumer Reports used to be great (I stopped a decades-long subscription a few years back because I didn't like the changes they were making to the magazine before the internet, when they raised issues that no one thought about or knew of. Now they definitely fulfill a purpose, but their ratings on most things are dated as compared to info you can find online.

Consumer Reports turned into a joke years ago. Their data is flawed because their collection methods are flawed. I stopped subscribing 5 years ago.
They do things like say the F-150 (#1 selling truck) is unreliable to generate news to try and get more subscribers.
I'm not saying the F-150s don't have their issues, and I'm not saying the Tundra isn't a reliable truck. F150s aren't perfect. Tundras are generally more reliable.
However, it's dumb to say the Tundra is a better vehicle when the initial cost is greater and the cost to operate is greater. I would pay $10k more for a similarly equipped Tundra. That would pay for a lot of repairs. Not to mention the gas costs. I get 7-8 mpg better in my F150 than my coworker's similar Tundra.
