3.5 or 5.0 if both are 3.55?

Thanks for all the advice. The trucks I am looking at are at different dealers but I will look for one that is similar that I can test drive. Tons of good information on this forum.

I was in the same situation as some on here... Had my head set on the 5.0 especially with the added HP to the 2015 5.0. Got to the dealer and drove a 5.0. Thought it was good. Then I thought I should at least try the Eco 3.5. I was dead set on the 5.0 for the sound of a V8 until I drove the 3.5 Eco, that truck actually put a smile on my face. I had to go with the Eco. Both trucks drove very differently to me.
I'm coming from a RAM 5.7 8 speed and this Eco will run circles around it. 75mph on the interstate going up inclines and my RAM would downshift 2 gears and RPM's would shoot up to make it up and incline. This was very annoying! 3.5 Eco doesn't even think of shifting gears on the interstate or even going up hills with the cruise on. As far as I'm concerned no truck needs 8 gears. So happy with the Eco 3.5

Along this same line of discussion, could people comment on bigger tires on the 3.5 compared to the 5.0. I too am considering upgrading to a newer model and have a 5.0. My goal would be a tire similar to the 285/65R20 KO2's. I have read that the 5.0 with 3.73's would be the only way to consider this without a tune. How about the Eco3.5 and 3.55 gears? Can it handle these tires well without a tune?

holy 'ecoboost is fastest thing ever' posts in this thread... I hope none of you ride in a vehicle that actually busts out of the 13 second club, you might shat your pants.
OP and DogDoc, you should drive them. I wouldnt buy the ecoboost if i wasnt going to run premium fuel in it (but thats just me), so thats a consideration IMO. The 5.0 will take a much bigger hit if you go up in tire size/weight, but would probably still net better mpg in the end. The ecoboost is more fun to drive, and sounds good with resonator deletes (if you like turbo noises).

I drove trucks with both engines in the previous generation truck and couldn't tell a whole lot of difference. The EB was a 2014, the 5.0 I owned was a 2013, otherwise they were the same truck (options, gearing, etc.). Obviously, the EB has more torque especially at low RPM's, per numerous dyno charts I've seen, but the difference in day to day driving was far from mind blowing to me. If the difference were so night and day between the two engines, it seems like no one would be buying the 5.0. I understand some people aren't early adopters of change (admittedly when I discovered the EB was a twin turbo V6 in 2011 I was skeptical myself). But if one engine was truly mind blowing acceleration over the other, I'd choose it. I didn't get the "beast" impression from either engine. As far as sound, the 5.0 sounds great. But the turbo noises were equally as cool.
All of these pro EB posts do make me want to test drive another one, though! I'm not a really aggressive driver. I like for the vehicle to move with authority without much throttle. So the low end torque of the turbos does sound appealing. My only fear is if I drive either motor in the new trucks, I'll probably want to buy one of them.
