Did you have enough power? To ME that is more important (to a point) than MPG's. Sounds like you have some more work to do with setting up your rig.

this right here. I could give two ****s about MPG when towing, I want to make sure I have enough power to pull, stability and enough power to stop.

Good point, the truck does have quite a bit more power, jeep was 285hp & 275tq. I'm just surprised at the numbers for a 3000# trailer. From reading around on here seems like those numbers are more common for a 7000# trailer.

its not just the weight. whats the frontal area of the trailer? Wind and hills will affect you as well.

Jamador..Sorry, I have idea driving condition and have been fuel economy testing for 40+ years. I use the cutoff feature when in town..don't go close to Austin..don't go 70mph. I do 60-65mph. Although the other day I just filled up reset the computer and started to Austin at about 9pm. the fuel economy started going up as I was driving, didn't hit but 2 lights, the whole way, which must be some kind of record. By the time I got to the airport the fuel computer said 32mpg with over 100m on tank. unbelievable! Any time on the highway driving like an old man will net +25mpg.
But my other cars are VW Jetta diesels that get right at 50mpg, but on a road trip the DSG netted 62mpg.
With any turboed vehicle..got to stay out of turboes to return fuel economy. Either foot in=power or foot out gives fuel economy. Gliding has huge paybacks as well. No idling..If I go 65-70mph I can get ~22-23mpg. Just above 70 will net me over 20 mpg.
I haven't done too much testing at 80 or above..although I want to do 130S down to SA. I would like to see some numbers of fuel economy at 85mph and to 90mph steading state, flat land.
Hope this helps with more to come...

Even when I'm not towing the F-150 is better than the vehicles it replaced. The Explorer and B3000 both got 18-19 mpg in mixed urban/suburban driving. The F-150 is always 21 mpg or better. The exception is if I have a lot of short trips where the engine never really gets up to temp. Then the mileage drops to 17-19 mpg.

I also believe the winter blend is crappier now than it was back when real winter was here. Can't wait for hot weather an good summer blend gas again. Hope gas doesn't remain crap from now on.

My winter MPG has been down considerably. Of course, being in N Michigan, I am in four wheel drive much of the time, and often driving through a lot of snow.
Prior to winter, I had been very happy with the mileage I was getting. I even had some 300 mile highway trips, getting over 25mpg. 2016 XL SCab, 2.7 4x4 3.55's.

Took some advice from a few members on here and the drive home with the camper was much more pleasant. Adjusted the wdh and that took care of the sway problem. I also stayed around 65mph instead of 70mph and I did not user cruise control. This bumped my mpg from 8.6 up to 11.6 on the highway. Much happier now!

Just got back from a trip of roughly 177 miles back and fourth. Got about 20.9-21.5 to and back. Going on cc 85-89mph the whole way. Pretty impressed. Not bad for having under 500 miles on the truck.
