Succesfully put an 02 Police Interceptor engine in 00 F150
#21
I've been driving police cars for 8 years now. The motors in them are low powered jnk. My first F150 was a 2001 f150 with the 4.6l in it. Not only was it a better running motor, but after 100K miles of towing, hauling and abuse it still ran. I have 65K on the one in my 01 crown vic and the only thing that is original on the motor is the oil cap.

back in the 80's when i lived in clearwater florida quite a few officers had been able to get drug cars and make them into police cars... i do not know how that has to work but those guys drove soem nice cars...
Here in indiana when the cops started using gm again most of them acted like they were pretty fast... but not heard any comments on the crown vics...maybe thats why.
but in 85 i thought the crown vics had 351 in them... I know in georgia that dude that stopped me was a state trooper and he didnt have an ordinary state trooper car, he said only a handful of troopers got them... and id loved to have had that motor... very nice cam in it..

In 1991 my Crown Vic Police Interceptor had a 5.0 HO Mustang motor in it. The Highway guys had 5.7's. (may have been older than 91 though) The newer Crown Vics are dogs off the line but top out pretty high. I have had them over 120. The mechanic says the speed limiter is raised on the PI with the Eagle GT tires.

Will work for parts
The difference in the 4.6 from the mustang gt is as follows
96-98 non power improved
99-04 power improved with different heads intake and slightly different intake lobe on the cams, along with a slightly different tune.
05 till present are 3 three valves
Also the 4.6 in the f150 is not the same as Any year mustang gt ever produced hence the triton designation.
I am not just saying this i am an ASE certified parts pro and tech. Don't want to step on anybody's toes but just wanted to clarify some things

Its all in the gear ratios and tuning. But who really NEEDS all that power and speed anyway. Maybe I'm getting old. Used to own a 68 Roadrunner with a 440 six pack when i was younger. Now thats a motor, but now that I'm much older I just want to have enough power to get out of the way if needed. My stock 5.4 has that

The 01 motor you put in is a good motor a great improvement over the 351m that was in police cars in the late 80`s. Those things where awful. When we got these things is was kind like the good old days. Faster from red light to red light. The valve covers where so much wider than the ones we just got rid of. Those motors are what got me back looking at fords. Now if you take a poll of the police administrators through out the country they will tell you that they seem to get longer life from the crown vic`s. the body`s and interior seem to hold up longer. The chevy might be faster but it just want hold up body wise. We had to run ours 24/7 with 4 different drivers back then. But the 460`s in the ltd`s was a beast and the best ever. The new engines are good engines not fast but not slow either. The best deal about the new motors(2006 and up) is the cooling fans or electric and than helps. We usually put around 150,000 on cars now and they still run but everything else is shot.I`ve had my car up to 135mph but don`t tell the chief lol. They want do that with a bar light on top tho. I did get to drive the v6 mention above in a tarurs police package that ford sent around in the early 90`s i beleive. It was quicker out of the hole but chief`s like big heavy cars for officer safety. There is a reason most departments use fords we are always looking but it seems we always go back to the crown vic. I`ve been driving police cars for 32 years and i have driven fords, dodges and chevy. Police administrator know what they are geting with ford from year to year.
