5.4 won't turn over, backfires through intake

Oh, crap, wait... as in not rotating whatsoever? Wow. Guess I'm the dumba**... sorry.
I should take my leave from this thread before I fail more. I've been so very and exhausted for the last week and a half.

yeah, it's in the thread title (no big deal man)
pulling valve covers tomorrow, to see where we stand, I don't mind to do timing chains and such, just hope pistons are in 1 piece, and valves aren't bent

I pulled the plugs (were changed at 95k) all came out easy, no issues.
rotated the engine a few times by hand, to make sure there wasn't piston to valve interference (if there was interference, it was time to toss, and get another)
once I confirmed there were no interference I plugged the battery cable back on, held the pedal to the floor (this keeps the injectors from firing) and hit the starter. chains are making a racket just at starter speed, so I'm interested to see what carnage I'll find when I get in there.
I've got about everything off to get to the timing cover, but the power-steering pump which is a bitch, (why did ford make it that hard to get to!) the valve covers are broke loose, but not removed. not sure I'll really need to to take them all the way off, should be able to do everything by just propping them up a bit.
I'll post some pics when I get the cover off, if the carnage is interesting enough

timing chain tensioner on drivers side had failed. The gasket behind it had popped.
I replaced chains, sprockets, tensioners and guides. with 147k miles,
I will say, after examination of the parts, nothing looked worn. I think it would have been fine if I had just replaced the tensioners.
On to the next issue. During the repair, looks like I knocked the vacuum hose off the back of the engine (so brakes are really HARD with no booster)
I've had other things going on, (I have 5 cars, so not hurting for transportation) and not had time to see how hard it's going to be to get this thing back on, but the little research I've done said it's going to be a beast!
