Vacuum Reservoir -1988 F-150 Lariat XLT 351 5.8L
I’m looking for an answer to something I discovered after I bought my 1988 F-150 Lariat XLT 351 5.8L last year. As I was degreasing the engine when I first brought it home, I noticed that the vacuum reservoir (It looks like a big juice can) was not connected. (In fact, it was just wedged between hoses and not mounted securely to anything.) I found the hoses that were supposed to run to it but they were plugged with epoxy of some sort.
Here’s the deal: The truck runs fine – starts right up and never stalls when idling. My question is should I correct this and replace the vacuum reservoir and re-connect it? What am I missing with out it? Would I gain anything if I do connect it?
I am a true novice and this is my first engine I am working on since I was a teen. I am glad to be back doing this but there is so much I don’t know and I am hoping to learn.
Thanks!
