Rear Axle Pinion Seal Replacement
originally I thought it was a leaky differential cover, but when i got underneath this evening I realized it was leaking from the rear end seal. I found a how-to video on Youtube - working on a Crown Vic - do you guys think this about the easiest way to do it without going through the whole in/ft torque wrench?
would any of you do anything else or differently? Last thing i want to do it trash my rear end by screwing something up

As you know; the Crown Vic Differential is not the same as a stock 1987 F150 Differential.
As the others said, remove drive-shaft, remove the pinion nut, remove old seal.
Install new seal, tighten pinion nut; but not too tight to where the pinion bearings burn-up after a few hundred miles and reinstall drive-shaft.

i know they are not the same, but it was the only thorough/example video I could find to explains the process. Does the F150 have a vent tube? The only thing mounted on the rear end has brakes lines coming into and going out of along with two rubber hoses. One leads upwards towards the bed and is "fixed" in a support bar, the other heads towards the front of the truck, maybe 18" and has a white, sort of connector in the end.

Yes, the axle housing has a vent hose.
Look on top side of axle housing for a fitting, this is where the rubber vent hose should be attached. If the hose is missing; the small check valve is probably plugged with dirt and that's why your pinion seal started leaking.

ok reviving this from the dead, because after replacement of the seal and pinion flange I still have a leak out the front. Which makes me think I didn't drive the flange back far enough. anyone have a pic of their pinion flange meeting the differential?

I would listen to him in the video and look for a procedure list online. Remembering to mark and count or what ever it takes to put it back together correctly. I used this video for reference its good to see its in here now lol
