Default oil in distributor, 92 f150

my truck has the 302 motor, 2wd, and within the last 1-2 months it has this rough idle, and bucks on acceleration about 75% of the time, occasionally it runs fine

the truck has 286k miles i have no idea if the motor is original, reman, or what

so i checked the coil with a meter, its fine, plug wires are only about 1.5 yrs old, still look good, pulled the distributor cat and the terminals are corroding so i'm gonna get a new cap/rotor kit today

however, there is oil down inside the bottom of the distributor cap, below the rotor, i pulled the distributor, and there is also oil around and behind where the distributor fits down into the block

i replaced the shaft o-ring about 6-8 months ago during a time when the motor was out of truck for various repairs, and it still looks ok why would this o-ring fail so quick?.....AND also why is there oil up inside the distributor? is there another internal seal that the shaft must be removed to get too? thanks

The internal seals are bad. Need to replace the distributor.

is there anyway this could be related to my erractic idling/acceleration?

obviously there is oil smeared between the metal contacts, where the stator? spins, could this cause a lack of power etc.?

Doubt very much this is causing your engine running concern. Although it should be fixed, how about the TPS on the side of the CFI unit. It is supposed to tell the computor how much throttle is applied. Have you checked for codes. I think in those days its an EEC IV system. Maybe it will tell you something.

Checked with my local NAPA and they say there are no seals available. I guess you could take it apart and remove the seal and go to a bearing/seal company in your area. I have removed the shaft before and I have to be truthfull, I don't remember seeing any standard looking seals. Change cap and rotor, I would wait and do the plug wires later. It seems to me people change them all to often to support the economy and not fix what needs to be fixed.

A reman distributor only lists for 177.00 thats list I know he can find it cheaper. I can sell it for 129.99 myself plus shipping. For the time that it takes to take it apart go find the parts and so forth its well worth it to just replace it.

ok, just ordered a reman distributor for 100 bucks from my local advance auto, should be here tomorrow

also picked up a tps for about 40, i just put the new one on and cleaned a bunch of carbon buildup out of the throttle body and entrance to the upper intake while i was there....

i'll hold off on new wires, but i'm going check the resistance of my current wires and check/clean plugs while i wait for the distributor

thanks for the help, i'll let y'all know what happens tomorrow
