Hey everyone!

My parents gave me a "coupon" to get an exhaust kit for my F150 as one of my Christmas presents. Here is a picture of my ever faithful truck from a camping trip in September:



The truck is an older model and it is difficult to find aftermarket parts for it, and really only been interested in a Flowmaster exhaust kit (Model 17238), since that is the only one I can really find.



However, I was wondering if any of you have/had a F150 with this kit...or with others similar so that I can make an educated decision. I like the exhaust that come out the sides...or out the sides at an angle. I don't think having it come straight out the back is possible (without it looking funny) due to the custom bumper on the back (the pipes would have to be tilted down to clear the bumper, and they would probably get banged up on the road to our cabin.)

I am looking for more of a tuned Mustang sound out of it...something louder than the stock, but not loud for the sake of being loud---if that makes sense.

We've kept the truck in great shape (only 68,000 miles...waxed monthly...), and am trying to keep it stock looking, but with some flair.

I don't know what exhaust systems are out there for our trucks, but if you want something other than the Flowmaster you found then you can have a custom system made at a good exhaust shop. Then you can pick which muffler you want. The pricing should be fairly reasonable, probably no more than $300 depending on which mufflers you get and if you are only going from the catalytic converter back. Many shops have most pipes in stock so they don't even have to bend them. My '72 LeMans needed mufflers and one tailpiece and I paid $150 for 2 stainless steel used Mustang mufflers, the tailpiece (which surprising to me was in stock), and installation. They quoted me about $300 for all new duals from the manifolds back, but I was on a budget.

Summit Racing has kits. The Flowmaster stuff is twice as much as the Summit kits and both are 'aluminized'. If you drive the truck regularly aluminized is good (if it sits a lot, the aluminized steel will rot from the inside out). Stainless is obviously ideal, but an aluminized kit will last many years.

You have to make sure you read the fine print on their kits, though. Some won't work with dual fuel tanks and others won't work with a trailer hitch.

A local, custom made system is an option too. I have Magnaflow 'straight through' stainless mufflers through 3" pipes on my GN and they sound REALLY mean. Summit has 3" kits for the F150, too. Dual 3" pipes look great. I know it's a totally different animal, but this is what they sound like on my V6.
