Default I need a jack for my '93 F150

Hello all,
Sorta new to this forum and not the most car savvy guy in the world so I am hoping for some input before I spend money on the wrong thing. I need to get a floor jack but see many different sizes out there; what should I look for to make sure I can raise my '93 F150 high enough to get some jack stands under there?

Thanks gang, I look forward to spending a lot of time in here and learning how to keep my new (to me) baby running for a long time.

I bought one at walmart that has a threaded shaft on the pad that does the lifting. When you put it under a tall vehicle you can spin that and it will raise the lifting point up to 6-8" before you ever start jacking. I think it was in the $40 price range. I also like it because it has a safety bar that you can lock the jack in the lifted position, I feel safe with that and don't use jack stands.

It depends on what you will be doing with it. I have small floor jacks that will lift the truck enough to change a tire and still fit behind the seat. Remember if the vehicle weighs 4000 pounds then at the most you will only be lifting about half if you jack up one whole end at once, and less than half if you jack up corners. If you don't need to keep the jack behind the seat then get a high lift SUV floor jack. It's best to get a floor jack for stability, I wouldn't get a bottle jack unless you want to try to mount it under the hood.
