Default My 1st F150 (1993 w/ 50k) has some codes (2 or 3 digit?)

Hey everyone! I read on here all the time, but never needed to join until I bought this truck. It is a 1993 f150 351 4x4, super cab, with 50k miles on it. It was a farm truck, so needs some work. It has been sitting about 5 years and has some frame rust from the NC coastal region. It is going to be a project but isn't everything that makes us happy!

I read about how to pull my OBD codes, but there are 2 digit and 3 digit codes in my shop manual and i do not know which ones to read. It runs rough, stalls out and shifts rough after running for a while.

I tried to read them late last night.
With the engine off and in the on position I pulled these numbers (all together):
KOEO
11211211122128634122128634

Running KOER
498122998122

Any help decoding this will help me more than you can imagine. I can redo the self test tonight if needed.

Looking forward to sharing what I learn working on this big blue baby.

Thanks,
Bogan

It would be easier if you took a video and posted that. I'm guessing yours are three digit.
Continuous
111-all good
Memory
221
286
341

KOER
4=8cyl
122

You have to WOT the throttle, some you have to turn the OD button on/off. Re-read how to do the test and take a video of the cel. IF you didn't let it warm up before the test you need to, I'm assuming this is why you got a 112 in the continuous codes, I didn't list it because I'm not sure if that was code or if you were counting the initial blinks.

FWIW the codes are given out in numerical order, 145 always comes before 213 which comes before 251, so on and so forth.

Ahh. Gotcha. I counted all blinks, including the initial ones, so Idid not leave anything out when asking for help. I will let it warm up tonight and try again with WOT and turning the wheel.

Wow you are fast. Thanks.

I think 3 digit started in 94. Any way looks like u got grounding problems with that many codes.

Actually they started in 91 with 3 digits, friend has a 92 that throws 3 digit codes. Don't know if all of the engine sizes had 3 digits in 91 but that was the year they started the change.

Default I tried again and took video

It runs rough and has been sitting for a few years. It is a 1993 F150 4x4 5.8L. I am trying to read the check engine light codes. It stalls at lights and bogs down under full throttle.

I did the self test with KOEO and KOER.

I think my codes are:
Key on engine off- 1121121 1122128634 122128634
Key on engine on- 121411167536632 121411167536632

Video of CEL test: This is engine off then running.

Koeo
121-tps
koeo-memory
122-tps
128-map not changing, check vacuum lines
634-PNP, CPP, MLP fault. common problem easy fix,
koer
167-you forgot to "wot" during test or your tps is completely shot
536-BOO short or ground (Brake On Off)-you forgot to step on brake, think that's a step anyway.
632-you have to push the OD button between the blinks indicating engine (3 for i6 or 4 for v8) and the light flashing for you to WOT.

Basically your tps probably needs replaced or at least clean the connector really good, before replacing READ UP ON HOW TO PROPERLY DO IT.

You have a vacuum leak that you need to track down and repair, most likely one of the small plastic vac lines (I replaced all of mine from here, I got 22ft 4mm hose, wish I would have gotten the engine dress up kit + 12ft of 4mm and done every line under the hood), takes like 30 minutes to do all of the 4mm.

The Park Neutral Position is not responding correctly and probably needs replaced.

The KoEr test should be redone, you must follow the directions, you have to push the brake, toggle the OD button, and gas the throttle at the correct times otherwise you will keep getting the above codes telling you that you're not doing it correctly.

Fix the vac problem and replace the TPS and your running rough should disappear.

Default Much thanks!

Flt, Thank you so much. You would not believe how many opinions you get saying it is a 2 digit code, even at different part stores. The codes you mention in the memory make perfect sense. I will check the tps and replace the vac lines.

I have seen a couple posts on how to check/clean/replace the tps, so hopefully that will not be too tough.
As for the vac lines, I am sure I can find them in my repair manual or online.
Thanks for the link to the tubing!

I will redo the koer test this week and see what I can find from that. I tried wot and steering, but not the OD button and prob hit the gas at the wrong time anyway. haha.

Thank you soo much for your help!
This was beginning to feel overwhelming.

I will do some research on the neutral/ park sensor and the 634 code.

'91 has both 2 digit and 3 digit codes.
