I have fuel delivery issues from the tank to the engine.
My gas tank is full, however, it seems that the fuel isn't getting to the engine. It will start but only for a few seconds before it shuts off. I first thought it was empty since the fuel gauge is out. So I went to fill it up and it started to poor back out after a bit. i also notice that some fuel began the leak out along the pipes underneath the truck. However, the tank is still full once it stopped leaking.
When I bought the truck it ran for about 3 days, but never that good. I know that the person I bought it from had it parked for a while. Could there be something clogged up? I have basic mechanic skills and don't know much about the fuel delivery process. Where should I start.
Also, does anyone know where I can download a manual or guide for a 1984 F150 inline 6?

Does it have one tank or two? If there are dual tanks, it's a lot easier to narrow down the issue.
The fuel filter should be on the driver's side frame rail about where the cab and bed meet. You'll have to get under there a ways, because it's on the inside of the rail. I'd start there, by replacing the filter.
If that doesn't work, you may need a new fuel pump (you know you need a sending unit if you get in there to change the pump). You can check for codes and see if the computer tells you anything more.

How would I know if the fuel filter or pump is the issue? I'm going to get to this tomorrow once I get off work. About how much do these parts run?
Does anyone know if there is an online guide for this vehicle which can assist me in taking the required parts apart?

We'd do it

The filter should be no more than $5, and the pump shouldn't be more than $20, if that. The pump is on the side of the engine and requires removing 2 or 3 hoses and 2 bolts to remove. The filter is on the carburetor right where the fuel line screws on. Unscrew the fuel line and unscrew the filter housing. There is a spring in there also so don't lose it. I think you should be able to handle it without step by step instructions, except if the engine is engaging the fuel pump pushrod you can turn the engine to make pump installation easier.

quick question, when I disassemble the filter or pump, will I need to worry about the fuel coming out the fuel line, will I need to pinch it? Or I don't need to worry about it?
