Your computer can't see misfires.

Default Map

Today I unplugged the MAP sensor and started the truck and it wouldn't stay running for more than 3 or 4 seconds. It was running alot worse with it unplugged. I tried to clean the plug but it was hard to get to. I did take a little sand paper to the stabs that go back inside the plug. I'm going to have to find a way to clean that plug because it is a little corroded. I also pulled the Idle air sensor and cleaned all the carbon build up out of it with carb cleaner. Then before I got to do anything else I found a gas leak. It looks like its around the fuel pump in top of the tank. Its never leaked before in the past month that I've had it. ( Been under the truck alot ) Just filled it up though. Got all of the gas out of it and I'm going to drop it tomorrow and see what the problem is. Will keep you posted. By the way I bought a new sending unit to fix my temp gauge but I can't seem to locate it on the truck and its not in the Haynes Manual. If anyone knows I would apprecieate it.

Passenger side of the block, all the way towards the rear and high up near the head.

Thumbs up My truck is fixed!!!!!!

I just thought that I would stop in and let everybody know that my truck is fixed. I checked the fuel pressure like suggested in the forum and it was from 80-100....So i went and bought a pressure regulator put it on the truck and presto it was fixed. No more backfiring when you rev it up and no more sputtering and quitting after it warmed up. It runs like a new truck. I just wanted to say thank you to all of you truck guys on here for all of your help...Now I can enjoy my truck and do some of the stuff to it that I want to do. I look forward to being a member of this forum for a long time.

There's nothing better than spending money where to want to instead of where you have to.

Spent WAY too much on an 87 302 with same problem. NOT all do, BUT IF it has the black canister for a fuel filter, driver's side rail, CHECK THE LINES! What we found was that when P.O. Cuss, cuss, cuss**#$ took out THAT filter, he twisted the hard plastic lines when replacing the canister, thus inhibiting fuel flow.
***** Ever notice that Previous Owner and Pissed Off have the S*A*M*E ACRONYM??? ****
