Well, I finally removed the tank selector valve and spliced the tank I want to keep to the lines leading to the engine and NOTHING. Before I did this, the high pressure fuel pump on the chassis was humming when I put the key in the on position.

Thanks Sean. Well, it was worth a try...I think. In order to put those "duck bill" clip fasteners back on my fuel lines it looks like I have to get that hard plastic fuel line material to expand quite a bit. I think I'll boil some water and soak the tips in it for a minute or two, shake them dry as much as I can and try to put the fasteners back on. Otherwise, I may just have to buy new fuel lines.

The dual function reservoir does two things, it switches the ports internally depending on which tank is supplying low pressure fuel and it has a small reservoir to keep fuel to the engine supplied on steep inclines, off camber and during tank switching.
There are reservoirs out there, they are pricey. I got a new in box for about $180. There is also forums /pictorial for rebuilding. These trucks have notoriously bad fuel systems, seems nearly everyne has problems with them. A computer, relay, electrical switch, inertia switch, 3 pumps, dual fuction reservoir, plus all the plumbing, wires, connectors and grounds. Leaves for alot to go wrong.
Search is your friend, there is tons and tons of threads on these systems, a meter, wire diagram and some tools are needed for troubleshooting.

Okay, thanks for the explanation. Very easy to understand. I hear ya on the search comment, but sometimes it's NOT my friend on here. Everyone seems to prefer a different name for everything. For example, I'm learning about these things by going through my Clymer repair manual, so I only know this part by the name it uses; "tank selector valve." So, when someone with a lot more experience, like you or JCMS refers to it as a "reservoir" or "dual function reservoir" I may never find that information because of my ignorance. Also, try going to an auto parts store to find "duck-bill clip type fuel line fasteners" and they will look at you like you just asked for a flux capacitor. Anyways, guys like you, and especially JCMS, who put so much effort into posting to help noobs like me, who just NEED their truck to run, are the heartbeat of DIY forums like these. You guys should get credit for that. Thanks so much and forgive me if I am unable to find the answers to all of my questions in the many other posts you and others have thoughtfully made. (Oh did I mention inline 6 / straight 6 / 300 / 4.9 / 4.9L ? Sometimes, I have to do 5 searches for each search just because of all the names for my engine type. )
