cruise control no brake response
I search the forum and didn't see anything like my issue.
1988 XLT 302 AoD single cab longbox
When I use the cruise control, the wheel buttons function properly. The problem is that the brake pedal won't put it in coast mode. I hit the brakes, the truck slows, but the cruise immediately tries to get back up to speed.
Is this an adjustment on the brake pedal? I doubt that the brake isn't supposed to disengage the cruise. I've only worked on vacuum cruise modules, so would this be electric?
Any help is appreciated!

Not sure about an 88 but my 95 has a sensor that went bad. The sensor is on the end of the master cylinder. It has a wire coming out of it. Mine had brake fluid seeping out of the top. Again, yours may or may not have that sensor but its something to check.

I wonder if the resume button switch isn't stuck in the pressed down position. As a troubleshooting measure I wonder if you could disconnect the correct wire on the back of the control. Just remove the screws on the back of the steering wheel to access the back of the control and get to the wires. You may want to put some tape around the end of the disconnected wire in case there is juice running back through it.

Check the two wires at the brake light switch on the brake pedal under the dash, they have a tendency to break inside the insulation causing your problem, pull on each one and see if either stretches or falls off, you probably don't have any brake lights either.

initial checks
Brake lights function as they should and I looked under the brake pedal and found no problems with the wiring. The resume button isn't stuck in the down position. The other controls work (set/accel) while at speed so I don't think the button wiring is at fault.
I'm wondering if there is a sensor or electrical connector I need to be looking at, and where it would be located.

I still have no cruise brake response and recently I lost my brake lights. At the pedal, I have two connectors, one white, one black. White seems OK but the black has been cut. PO hatchet job for an amplifier is most likely the culprit. Several other cut wires under there, too. Can anyone tell me what color wire should connect to the black connector?
