The more surface area, the longer you can go between maintenance cleanings. I'm lazy! Think of it like this, a small faucet mount water filter for your home that you change out every 100 gallons, or a whole home filter that you change out once a year. Again, I'm lazy! The cone that I put on my 5.0 was about the same diameter as yours, but considerably longer for more surface area.

If you wanted to be lazy you should have left the dry stock paper filter that you could throw away! Oiled performance filters require extra work which does not jive with being lazy! (Don't get offended, just pointing out the irony of it)

K&N's recommended filter cleaning is at 50K miles. Plus it benefits me greatly, in part, to my 21mpg. I drive 50 miles to work on Tues morning and 50 miles home on Fri night and it pretty much sits during the weekends. I've probably got around 20k miles on the K&N right now and other than vacuuming out love bugs once in a while, I haven't touched it. Plus, we live in a humid climate. Paper filters soak up that humidity in short order and get brittle and swell and I got tired of spending $10 every 3K miles or less on a new paper filter. Now with the increased MPG and allot less filter maintenance, I can spend that time and money sitting on my couch being lazy and drinking a beer!

Then you NEED to wash it. It's probably dirty as hell, you wouldn't believe the amount of dirt that comes out of those filters even when they look clean. I know what I'm talking about, I had one for years and have another in the garage right now. 20k max between cleanings and I think that is even too far, but then again I'm pretty **** about maintenance.... It's burned into my brain, I'm an aircraft mechanic. It's all about schedules in my world! I agree about the beer and couch, it's the weekend and that is exactly what I am doing!!! Cheers!!

I probably need to clean it. I've run foam and fabric filters on my atv's for years and am very familiar with them and believe in them. When I've actually got more than a day off, I'm **** about maintenance too. I'll be spending the next few months on a movie set 12 hours@day Sat and Sun and the ambulance 84 straight hours during the week. Pulling 132 hours a week right now with everything I own needing maintenance. I had planned some major work on the atv and the truck for hunting season. Both the maintenance and hunting season are looking pretty well shot right now. Anyway, back on topic. I change the synthetic oil at about 8K miles and usually check the air filter then and vacuum out any large debris. It's all highway at the moment, so i'm not too worried about it.

Do you want dimensions? I just made it out of 11guage sheet steel, and used torches to bend it to shape.
