Hi guys,
Thanks for all the replies. I did sell the truck, but your advice and information is definitely valuable for the future if I ever have the same problem, especially the larger and new cable fix. That starter problem was one of the most maddening things I've dealt with; never did get it fixed, but ended up selling the truck mostly because of the awful gas mileage which is normal for that engine. Thanks again!

My relatively stock 87' 302 got 17.5 mpg on my last 19 gal. tank full (330 mi./tank) w/o trying. If you take care of it, plus a couple of minor tweaks, it will take care of you! Obviously, your cylinder compression psi figures in too. But by taking care of the engine, you keep the psi healthy longer. I would say, "known for being run into the ground", may be more accurate!

Default 89'f-150 custom 300 inline 6 4x4

I have been having trouble with my truck running after I crank engine it will start just fine but won't stay running and engine light comes on after I pedel the gas to keep engine running, I have replaced fuel pressure regulator and map sensor. I don't have the money to pay for mechanic so if anyone has any similar problem please help!!!!?? I think it might be an electric fuel pump problem on side rail of frame but not sure. Help please!!

fuel filter...you need to check the fuel pressure at the engine, do you hear the fuel pumps vibration when you turn the key on, not to start...just on?
