I'm curious as to why you think the bearing is out ? I also have a 88 that there is a lot of clucking from the rear upon acceleration or if I let off the gas going down the road. I've crawled underneath and checked the u joints and they seem fine. I figured instead of starting another thread I would ask you and at the same time bump yours and try to get answers.

Hope you realize the new bearing will need to be pressed onto the pinion shaft...replace the cover gasket and the pinion seal while you're in there and don't forget to check the carrier bearings as well.

my u-joints are good so i was playin with the yoke and i can move the yoke around 1/4" each direction, so i figured that the pinion bearing is out.

Same thing here. I was told I needed a whole new rear end. Guess I should try that first.

Mine did that and I just tightened the nut. I've got to change the pinion bearing on my other axle though.

Do you remember what size that nut is?
