yeash. list keeps getting longer. im trying to do this on a budget, cause i wasnt expecting a $3000 repair a few thousand miles into owning this truck. tough call to make on the oil pump... 165, thats plus labor, right? and the oil pan drop and check, wonder what thatd add to the labor... guess ill have to have a talk with the mechanic today and see if he can toss me some numbers.

thanks again.

I understand what you're saying but if you don't do it right you MAY end up having to do it all over again. $165 is for the pump only. I have no idea what your mechanic would charge for labor. It is literally 6 bolts to get the old one out and put the new one back in. I would not skip on the dropping the pan part as this all stems from low oil pressure and a lot of times that stems from a plugged pick up tube.

Since I bought TWO (2) of them , I still got one I'll give you. (Along with a word of caution to anyone doing it. Giggle it around and make DAMN sure it's seated before torqueing those 6 bolts.)

Us sitting here guessing isn't going to give you an accurate estimate. I think it's time that the shop look at it. Do the little things that have been mentioned and let them diagnose if that doesn't fix it. We have no idea what condition some of those parts are it unless you look at them. Honestly, I think it's best to bite the bullet and take it to the shop and get what ever is wrong fixed and then enjoy 100k of good driving

i think that is exactly what i said i was about to do... is something wrong with me asking questions so i can go into the shop educated?

i asked if the oil pump was necessary... someone could have said... ehh... itll be obvious if it needs to be replaced... or absolutely.. no matter what.

it seems like that is a pretty good thing to be aware of. i assure you there are tons of mechanics out there that wont know to replace things that arent broken, and lots of people that wouldnt like their mechanic to replace things that arent broke. so without me asking these questions, i could have gone to my mechanic, and he could have said.. ohh, your right phaser is bad. we put in a new one. everything else was good.

so yeah. im not asking people to guess... im asking people with more experience to give me a bit of education so i can make good decisions and know what to tell the mechanic to look for. and they are doing a great job of helping me out, and i appreciate it, despite not liking how my wallet is going to feel afterwards.

I wasn't saying that in spite...It's just speculation without really knowing what could be wrong with it. Sorry for offending if I did. That was not the intention.
