Yep, that's what happens when you get a worst in class 6500 lbs GVWR.

The 1630 lbs you referenced is the max on a base truck with no power or anything. You bought one of the heaviest trims you could so all that extra weight takes away from that, already low, 1630 lbs max. Your actual 1278 lbs is really really low, but that's because you started with a low GVWR and then went to the heavy Lariat trim.

My previous 2008 Sport Trac 4WD 4.6L 3V V8 midsize truck had a 1288 lbs payload. You'll just have to limit yourself to what a midsize truck could do with hauling and towing.

This was me with my 2014 FX4 - Payload of 1350 lbs. Ordered in and waiting on my 2016 Lariat FX4 with HD payload package - I am hoping to get around 2100 lb payload.

Makes me wonder how often I overloaded my 2011 STX, cause I know I probably did on many occasions.

I just checked mine and the label says load capacity is 1512. Is that good or bad? Also, I have 20" rims and the label is saying the spare tire has a 17" rim. Why would they put a 17" spare tire on a vehicle with 20" rims from the manufacturer.

Just checked my payload number on the door panel and it says 1475 lbs. One thing to remember is that lower profile wheels/tires can reduce your payload capacity. That's what I don't understand about some people who have ultra low profile tires; they significantly reduced the functionally of their truck. And then they tow a heavy trailer and wonder why their tires wear out so fast.

Good or bad is relative to your situation. If you regularly haul or tow heavy things plus people, then it might be bad. If not, then it's fine.

The spare is a 17" rim, but the tire on that rim has a larger sidewall than the tires on your 20" rims. As such the total diameter of the 17" rim plus its tire is the same as the total diameter of your 20" rims and tires. Make sense?

Well, the lowest profile tire from the factory is 275/55r20 (except on the Limited), which isn't that low of a profile really. At least, it's not "ultra low". My stock 275/55R20 tires are actually rated at 2535 max payload, waaaay above what my door says.

If someone puts 22"/24" wheels on and truly has ultra low profile tires, then they are likely driving a street truck anyway and aren't hauling much. Just a general blanket statement lol

So if you want to use your pickup to haul or tow (tongue weight is hauling) then buy the Heavy Duty Payload Package.

This is my truck with 1,100 lb of food in it. No lift or level. Stock tires.

It did ride a lot smoother in the rear.
