Good Evening All. I decided to take the factor Hankook 275 55 R20's off and go with 18" fuel rims with some BFG KO2 285 65 R18 Rubber. Drove it home from the tire shop and the TPMS system started to flash and displayed "--" for all tire pressures.
Took it back today and was told that the sensors were the wrong frequency (315MHz that came with the rims) and was told I need 415MHz sensors. Changed out the one sensor on the drivers side front (as per the 'sensor training procedure' ), drained the air for 15 seconds, and no horn chirp.
Took the truck for a drive around the block and suddenly the driver side front tire and passenger rear tire is recording correct tire pressures while the passenger front tire and driver side rear tire still read "--"
So a few questions for members here that have done the swap to aftermarket rims:

1. What is the CORRECT frequency of tire pressure sensors for 2017 F-150 models

2. Do ALL sensors need to be changed entirely before performing the 'training procedure'?

3. Is the entire training procedure for these sensors best left to the dealer, because I don't think the tire shop knows what they are doing...???

 

Anyone?

 

Can't say for sure on the 2017's...

I've tried to re-use my 2010 sensors on my new (to me) 2015 and they don't pair.
However, I believe that both the older and the newer systems are still 315MHz.

That said, maybe 2017 is different. fordparts.com lists my part number (looked up by VIN) as "TPMS-35" and the frequency as 315MHz. I was able to find 4 of these shipped on amazon for <$70.

I don't believe you need to do the reset procedure (truck is self-learning), but you certainly can do it either way (put into reset mode, let air out of tires until horn sounds, repeat on next wheel; or use the pairing tool). Certainly your dealer should be able to do it.

I don't think you need to change all the sensors to re-pair, but if you don't successfully pair all 4 sensors, I'm not really sure what would happen as far as displaying tire pressures.

I've done the repairing on my old 2010 using the tool and it was pretty straight-forward, but certainly your dealer could sort it out for you.

2015 and up are same.

 

2016 is 315MHz. 2015-2018 should be the same. Data protocol is different than 2014 and older trucks but use the same transmit frequency.

 

Update: Took the truck back to the tire shop this morning, after 2 hours of repeated tries by the techs, it turns out that there are two different programs that Ford uses on the TPMS sensors, and FYI to everyone out there, the sensor frequency that were used on my 2017 XLT are 433MHz, not 315MHz.

 

Just pulled out the old sensors from my 13 they were 315 mhz, I bought TPMS-35 from Tasca parts to replace them for use in my 15 but I cannot find on tasca what the freq is for the TPMS-35 part.

 

That's strange because when I replaced my wheels and tires the sensors I picked up were 315Mh. Glad you got it figured out.

 

The 315 MHZ is TPMS 35 and the 433 MHZ is TPMS 46.I wonder what the difference is other than freq.Maybe the TPMS 46 is for the trucks with LT tires?
