Clearly you have towing needs driving your interest in the HD model. Curious to see how the new truck stacks up in the towing department without those packages. What's your payload on the new rig?
This truck does have Max Tow.
The HD Payload package would have been great. Due to the late availability, it is being estimated these trucks will be available sometime this summer. None of the orders have received VINs yet. Once I take delivery, I need to break in the drivetrain before towing (whatever your beliefs are on this, the engineers are quite clear). If the truck is delivered in July, I lose a month of towing. That extra payload doesn't do me much good.

The payload on the new truck is 1,743#. This is a step up from the truck I traded in at 1469#.

I would suggest you try using them even though you don't need them. I'm 6'6" and would have no issues getting in and out without them, but for the same reason you pointed out, I started using them and it works fine. Have to duck on the way in, but using the grab handle (as awkwardly placed as it is) helps to swing in and I find I don't have to slide over the edge of the seat this way, which could lead to premature breakdown of the cushion.

The other option, is to just remove the running boards and help the kids into the car. I am considering pulling them off of mine, but have gotten used to using them for the time being.

Enjoy the new truck!

After a couple days, they are growing on me. I like the splash of chrome along the side.

I have waited 3 1/2 months since I ordered. No problem with that. Then COTUS quit working even when all the information entered is correct. I called Ford info and talked to a guy in Florida. He told me COTUS was never intended for the customer. It is just for the dealers. We know that is NOT correct.

One of your posts suggests that you ordered a regular cab truck which would explain the delay.

COTUS isn't perfect, but it's far better than trying to get info from the dealer. If you have questions about the status of your order, send a PM to Ford Service and Brittany will help you out.

I'll provide some clarity on this, Fx2.7. The COTUS site is still in its beta stage. The information on it should be considered reliable, considering the fact that it is pulled from the system I use when I look up orders. However, due to it being in beta, there are going to be glitches and delays; customers sometimes have problems with the system finding their orders, and the site does go down occasionally. That's when my inbox tends to reach max capacity!

It was intended as a tool for the dealers, but as we all know, that's not how things have turned out! It has become increasingly popular with customers as word of it gets around. I love tracking orders for everyone here, but I definitely understand the attention it gets. Please know that I'm here to check on your truck when COTUS is being fickle, all I'll need to get started is a PM with your VIN, or order number and dealer code if the VIN's not yet available.

I hope this helps a bit! Have a good one.

Brittany

I'm giving up trying to get HD Payload if summer is the best estimate. By then they'll be tooling up for the 2016 model year.

I've decided the payload increases are not substantial enough for 2015 XLT Supercrew after looking at some payload stickers here and on the Hanna Ford Canadian dealership. Ford reduced the GVWR on Supercrew from 7700 to 7050 so the payloads are still around 1700lbs. I test drove a 2014 XLT Supercrew 157" WB 4x4 last year and the payload was 1745 with GVWR 7700. I didn't go for this truck because of the color and leather seats and I thought it wasn't worth paying $35k for 300lbs of additional payload from my Tundra and thought the 2015s for the same configuration would be closer to 2000lbs.

I may look for a XLT Supercab with Max Tow pkg. On the Hanna site several SCab examples show payload sticker between 1900 and 2000lbs. That is all I need. I want more payload compared to my 2010 Tundra 5.7 2wd (1465) and 4x4 on my next truck to tow a travel trailer. I don't really need the Supercrew as there are only the two of us and would prefer the shorter wheelbase with 6.5' bed
