If you swim in a chlorinated pool the chlorine can cause slow, insidious corrosion to start. Soaking it for awhile in fresh water (distilled is best but not required) is good to do before moving it...

The manual says that if you get water up to the axle you have to replace the oil in the differential. That sounds like a clue that they're not intended for deep-water work.
