Just let wheels rotate with engine at idle, tranny in D. Watch wheels from rear and side. Look for lateral runout in tire and tire hop.

Alternator? Make sure the battery is fully charged, start the engine and check the voltage at the battery. With engine running it should be approx. 14 volts. If not you'll likely need an alternator....

If it's from a 350 and it's that much bigger, it's likely a 4R100. They are a much bulkier transmission and look nothing like a 4r70 or E4OD.
