I would buy a SD and not have to worry about getting out a pocket calculator every time I wanted to go camping. Matter of fact, I just did. My payload sticker is over 4k lbs.

I would just buy a new shank and hitch head and use your current spring bars. You need a trunnion bar head. Curt has one that will work with your current bars. I recently just bought one.

My boat is a 1985 and has its original engine. My F150 is a 1977 and has its original engine. I have a few other low mile/seasonal vehicles that I have had for years. Never had an issue.

I have towed my boat with an open diff 4wd for over 20 years. The main ramp I use is steep concrete. 4wd is usually needed to get the boat out. I would imagine a locker alone may do it.

You are towing 8k a year and hauling heavy loads. You are doing heavy duty work more than not. IMO, you need a heavy duty truck. A gas SD with 4.30 gears would be my choice

I know I will get flamed...lol...but my 1977 has never had the fluid changed.
