The 97 5.4 is a different animal than the 04-10 5.4 as it doesn't have the cam phasers and ect. to cause problems.

Thinking that with the coil not firing, the injectors probably dumped fuel into the cylinder, and that's where your raw fuel smell was coming from.

Just remember, leveling the front when unloaded will mean rear sag when loaded. Airbags on the rear or add a leaf will probably be needed if towing often. I would probably go with airbags myself...

You can squirt some oil down the bad cylinders...

You can squirt some oil down the bad cylinders and redo the compression test. If that raises the compression then the rings are bad. If not then it's a valve.
