Nearly 8% better is not too shabby. I wonder if wrapping it in the tape would help anymore. I will do this.

You would think, but that's extra costs.

Good thinking bud. As my dear old Dad would say, "Now that's using your head for something besides a hat rack".

I like this idea! How hot is that foam rated for? What I mean is, on a triple digit day stuck in traffic would it be too hot under the hood and melt or catch fire? Would there be any benefit of wrapping the hot side as well? The AC sucks on this truck as well.

I've seen insulation foam that's rated for like 800 degrees at HD but it costs nearly double. Still it would be under 20 bucks and well worth the peace of mind to me when I do this mod.

I just did this. I'm in AZ too and the ac sucks in 119. I worried about engine bay heat too, but i'll check it out in a day or two and see if the foam has changed at all. Gets hot back there by the firewall. I got the black foam, already split, with sticky tape sides. It's supposed to seal itself... Was 5 bucks at home depot.

I'm not sure if these trucks have insulation on the compressor itself but if not you can also purchase stick-on insulation tape and insulate the outside of the compressor as well. I did this on a couple cars I had in the past with good results.

Must be nice. I wish I had that problem. It's max cool on hi for me. I hate when someone calls and I have to turn the fan down to hear. Then I'm sweating while talking.
