Default gas tank quandary

I have a 95 XLT short box 4x4. Bought a southern box but the gas filler is in front of the rear axle. My truck's filler is rear of the axle. Can I change to a front tank without too much trouble?

Not "without too much trouble" but it's very possible. All the holes for gas tank straps should already be in the frame. You'll need a different filler neck, youll have to move the power plug, and you'll have to change or modify the rear section of your fuel line set.

Thanks Chris! Found out that the transfer case is in the way of a "Midship" gas tank on a short box 4 X 4. Exchanged the box with the dealer for a dual tank, just won't use the front filler. thanks, again. dmc

Interesting... I knew the shortbox got the smaller tank, now I'll have to watch for any 4x4 s/boxes with more than one tank. Seems like an off road vehicle is where you'd really want the extra fuel capacity; maybe some members with similar trucks could chime in here with what they have.

The regular cab short bed 4x4's MOSTLY only got the rear tank because of clearance issues with the front tank. There was a thread about this awhile back in the main section. I learned something new that day.

I have seen some with two tanks so either that was an option or somebody did some creative swapping.

And I agree, it seems really, really stupid to only have 18 gallons of gas on a 4x4.
