1996 f250 stalls when shifted into Drive.
I have a 1996 F250 with a 5.0.
It sat for 11 days while I was on vacation.
It starts fine and the motor runs fine in Park, Neutral, and Reverse.
The problem is when I put it in Drive it stalls immediately.
Ive done some reasearch and ive been told a cracked air duct tube (seems to be fine), a siezed torque convertor, TPI, and to replace the fuel filter.
Anybody out there ever have this same problem and how did you fix it?
Thanks Mike.

Sounds like a bad torque converter. However, with the age that it is, you're probably better having having the entire tranny rebuilt. It will cost you a little bit but call tranny shop and ask them to buy a transmission from ETE (they will know who you are talking about). You will get a 3 year unlimited warranty and their support is top notch. The only down side is that they do not sell to the public. Whatever you do, do not buy a reman from Autozone! The reman company they use is horrible.
If you plan on replacing just the torque converter by yourself then get one from here. Great units and well priced:

TPI is very cheap and did the trick for me. Of course to get to it you need to remove the throttle body and replace that gasket, but you can also do some cleaning while you're in there. My truck would start, idle for as long as I wanted, rev up, no problem. Put it in gear and....puh! Died every time. I would try the cheap(er) stuff like this before I would let someone get me for a torque converter. It may end up that you need one, or maybe not.
