Did you adjust your ignition switch when you installed it? If your '87 is like my '88, you can slide the switch farther forward or backward. You would need to slide your switch farther toward the steering wheel so the the starter would engage when you turn the key.

You can test the solenoid by running a wire from the the positive battery post to the little post on the solenoid with the slip on wire. If the starter then cranks the solenoid is good.

Verify with a test light whether you now have power going to the small wire on the solenoid when you turn the key to 'start'. And only then.
You had constant power going to the solenoid via the small wire before but the starter wasn't going. It should have been cranking constantly with constant power there - but it wasn't. So the solenoid is fried I would think.

I replaced the solenoid with a new one but to no avail. I even tested it by bridging the small terminal and it cranked. I'll have to have someone turn the key to start while I use the test light, as well as pull my switch back out and make sure it's adjusted. When I turn the key with the headlights, the lights don't dim or anything like they should, I'm honestly just completely stumped here.

You won't have to pull your ignition switch back out to adjust it. Just loosen the screw on each side of the switch and slide then switch toward the steering wheel. If you get the switch to operate the starter, check all positions of the switch before putting the cowling back around the steering column.

Note: Make sure the actuator, the piece that connects the key tumbler with the ignition switch, isn't broken.

If this isn't solved yet, you can take the ignition switch off the column while it's still plugged in and operate it by hand to see if it sends power to the solenoid.

Wanted to thank those that posted here. Adjusted ignition switch on my 91 F150 5.8. Hell to understand how to do so with some, I'm NOT an audio learner. Can apply above info to 87 F150 302. Again, Thanks~
