I could do that, yes, IF I had the adapter. Does anyone have the similar make/model of truck who know what the code connector looks like and where I can get one? (Neither Autozone, or Oreilly's) and I see nothing on ebay for Ford's; many of the adapters seem to be make specific.

Did you even bother to read the sticky? Of course not, because then you would know you don't need an adapter which isn't made because you can't adapt an OBDI into an OBDII. A piece of wire man, that's all you need.

Sean;

Thank you, it took me some time to find the sticky, every time I searched OBD1 i got a different page. I even just found some older forum posts on the topic that were very helpful.

Last night I found that Autozone sells an Actron OBD1 reader for $30., it's probably the same light/circuit diagram (but with audio too) shown in the sticky, in a pretty plastic case, with tabs that fit the vehicle receptacle. More valuable is the book that comes with it listing instructions and the codes themselves, without the ambiguity of make, model or type.

Using the code reader I tracked the problem down to the MAP sensor and found that a vacuum hose had come detached, raising havoc with the computer. I probably knocked the hose off when clambering in the engine bay, wrapping tape around the wiring harness, back of the engine, to prevent drips on it from water leaking back of the hood; then I realized the MAP sensor is in perfect place to catch those drips too, and could be why it won't start during wet weather. So I put a baggy over it for now, to see what happens next time it rains. If that works I'll return the new MAP sensor still-in-the-box, from Autozone. An O'Reilly's clerk told me that he had other customers with starting problems during wet weather, that went away when they replaced the MAP sensor.

Well, I thought I might have solved my starting trouble on humid days, but no such luck yet. To date I've changed distributors, cap, wires, MAP sensor and wrapped the wiring harness in plastic wrap and rubber hose. The only thing I've yet to change is the coil (new one still in the box) and am at my wits end.

Finally tracked it down, it was the coil; visually I could see the lower e-core laminations were bulging and rusted from apparent moisture collecting inside the plastic cover. My replacement coil is fully potted. Word to anyone with a similar problem.
