Default Radio noise...bad ground?

I just installed a head unit, amp, and 4 speakers a few months ago. Just got off the boat the other day (been gone for a month) hopped in the truck and the first thing I noticed was a "buzzing" sound through the speakers. Everything sounded good, except for that hum. I presumed a ground had come loose.

I had a 6-day training class starting the following day, so I figured I'd eventually find time to fix it. Here's the strange part....in the morning, on the way in (1 hr drive) the noise was gone. When I would get in the truck to drive home in the afternoon, it would be right back. This happened for 6 days straight.

Grounds all look good, as far as I could tell. Haven't had a chance to check resistance, but I did run a temporary ground to the amp just to see if it would change. It didn't. I'm basically stumped, though, as to why it only does it in the afternoon. I'm guessing it has something to do with heat....but what should I be looking at...amp? Hu? Battery? Chassis?

What is the amp grounded to? It should be grounded to a hole you drilled out and sanded ALL the paint off around the hole, held with a sturdy nut and bolt. Also, is your ground as big as your power wire going to the amp? How big is the power wire on the amp and how big is the ground wire? NEVER bolt to seat belt or seat bolts because bumps or driving WILL cause ground loops.

Power and ground are both 8 gauge. I drilled (or found) a small hole, scraped to bare metal, and used a screw and washer to clamp it down. Worked fine until recently. I even tried running an additional wire from the amp ground to the chsssis, just to make sure it was grounded well. No luck.

One more clue... today, I was driving and the noise was there. I had to goose the throttle pretty good while pulling into traffic. When I did, the noise disappeared for about 30 seconds. ..then came back.

And just to be clear, this noise is constant...doesn't change with volume or adjusting fade/balance. Noise is present with key on/engine off, but is louder with engine running.

There is a noise capacitor by the coil.

Oh yeah...seems like I've read that. Is it located in the harness? I'm guessing it's a small gadget of some sort? I'll run out and take a look.

Is this something that goes bad?

Well, thanks again, Sean...that turned out to be the culprit. The grey plug you see in the pic was corroded inside. I cleaned it up and the noise is gone!
