Obd ?

Obd ?
I have a 96 f150.
Should be OBD 2. But the diagnostic plug is is a 7 pin obd1 style. It's also not under dash on the drivers side it's hanging under the dash under the ashtray in the middle.
So is it an obd2 with the obd1 plugin? So I'll only need a plug adapter?
Is it just the tail end of the obd1 and is in the cab instead of under the hood?
I'm looking to buy a scanner for both this vehicle and my daily and this one is throwing me a bit since there are mostly conflicting answer online.

The port is where it should be, though it usually has a little retainer that holds it to the dash. Take a picture of it so we can see what you are dealing with.
If it was OBD1 you would have a diagnostic port under the hood on the driver fender near the firewall.

On my bros 96, there is an obd 2 port right in line with the headlight switch but just down under the dash. Sometimes they get shoved up into the void area when they break off the mount. I’d check there first
