Default hvac fan runs a few minutes after cutting truck off

I've had my 89 f-150 about 2 months now and I've noticed since it's getting warmer and after a drive I shut the key off and the hvac blower motor runs several minutes and shuts itself off.if I turn the key on the motor cuts off.i've got a friend with a 92 f-250 and he says his does the same thing and he thought it was meant to do this to help cool off the engine.does this sound right?i just want to be sure before I worry over this.

Never heard of our generation trucks doing this. Both of mine cut off with the ignition as does the other 90's models in our family.

I had never heard about this either but that's why I was posting to see what's going on with this thing.

what engine? are you sure it is the HVAC fan? did you open the hood and feel the box?
the late 80's I6 engines had a cooling fan on the engine by the intake, if i'm not mistaken they ran after the truck shut off.

You both have the 4.9. It's the engine after run cool down fan. That's what they call it. I have it.

Why? Newer cars do it, they just use the radiator fan.
