Default Fuel gauge not working...what to check?

My fuel gauge is stuck on empty. I only use the rear tank, the fill hose to my front tank was cut when I bought the truck. All my fuses under the dash are good. Some of the fuses are rated for higher amps than what they should be...is there anything else I can check? Or is dropping the tank and checking the float the next step? Also my stock temp gauge doesn't work. It's a 1989 straight 6 auto. Thanks

Check the dash switch. I think yours has a jumper wire to the gauge.

It's the switch that has front and rear on it - the one for switching tanks.

Power. you'll need to find a wiring diagram and get a voltmeter or maybe just a test light.
