Is the battery light is on and its not charging, chances are the alternator isn't any good. Quick test is to put a multi meter on the battery with the truck running and should read between 13-14V.

Anything less then either the alternator is dying or you have bad wiring/loose connections. 1990 I'm betting its still a 2G alternator.

Took the alternator off and had it tested. Everything tested good. It is the alternator with the internal voltage regulator. Im thinking wiring but not sure what to check. I'm not great in the electrical dept.

Check the white wire on the alternator plug.

I'm not big on bench testing parts cause the problem is when its in the vehicle. The plugs on those alternators have a bad reputation of melting as do the charge wire.

So I'm guessing I should check for resistance in all those wires but where do they go? I'm not great with electrical so not sure what to check. Obviously putting the red lead at wire but should I just check it against batt ground or where does that wire go? Thanks for the help
