Default 91 F-150 ignition problem

I have an ignition problem where if the key is either towards the beginning or the end of the run position the truck will start, but if I let it go after cranking it will die in the middle of the run position. I replaced the ignition cylinder but that did not fix the problem. Have already checked all the ground wires and pulled all the connections under the hood and used dielectric grease on them. I assume it has something to do with that rod that runs on the top of the steering column????

Help......

Thank you

You changed the ignition cylinder ? That sounds like something to do with the key ?
You would need to change the ignition switch which is further down the column, that's what the rod moves. Sounds like it has a dead spot in it.

Thank You Chris:

I pulled it out today and took it apart. The grease had turned black on the brass slides and it was not getting a connection in the middle of the stroke, just like you said. The plastic was also loose so I am getting a new one. Thanks again.
