Default 1988 4.9 alternator/charging issue

Most of us already know that there are issues with the charging system on the 4.9. My question to you all is ... What amp fuse should I use to replace the terrible fuseable links from the alternator to the solenoid on the firewall?
Also ... I'm assuming that my regulator is crapped since my voltage coming out of my alt is 41v !
Anyone that has re-wired this system to remove the fuseable links and delt with this crappy system is the one I'm looking to talk to! Thanks!

Why are the fusible links terrible? It's something you should never have to touch. If you're regularly changing fusible links, enough to annoy you that bad, then you have bigger electrical problems you should be focusing on.

I guess they're not terrible .. I just prefer fuses.. I think mine are so old now that they all need to be replaced.. And I just like to deal with things that are easier to work with like fuses. I'd like to replace them all with fuses... I don't really know if an advantage to fuseable links compared to fuses that's all. Any thought on why my alt would be charging at 41v other than a smoked regulator?

It's not something you have to work with. They're something you should almost never have to touch, except maybe when your alternator puts out 41 volts.
