I don't know if this has been resolved by the OP or not but I got to tell you, OZONE is the way to go as suggested earlier.

I built an ozone machine and now make decent money cleaning the smell out of houses, apartments, hotel rooms and vehicles. Have you ever noticed how clean the air smells after a thunderstorm? That is because when lightning strikes it creates ozone which is actually just a disruption of the oxygen in the air. Oxygen is O2 and when lightning strikes it breaks a lot of O2 into single molecules of oxygen. Since oxygen does not like being alone it attaches to anything it can find. Usually that is other oxygen or O2 making O3. O3 is not natural so it is constantly looking for a way to dump that third molecule. When the O3 finds an odor molecule that third oxygen molecule attaches to it and it oxidizes the odor molecule, destroying it forever.

So to clean your car, house or other place (you can do mattresses and furniture by enclosing in a room and ozoning the entire room) You clean the area to get rid of the SOURCE of the odor then ozone to get rid of the odor. If you don't get rid of the source, the small will come back because the source creates more odor. If the source is gone and the odor is eliminated the smell cannot return. This method is also used to clean the odor from small house fires. You remove the burnt areas, paint over the areas scorched but not burnt with KILLS, clean the walls and other areas (removes the source) then run the ozone to eliminate the odor for good.

If you had a dead skunk in a room, no matter how much you clean you cannot get rid of the smell UNLESS you get rid of the dead skunk, then clean the room.

When I ozone a car, I crack a window on each side of the car about 2" and put the ozone machine on the seat and turn it on. I let it run for 30 minutes then open the doors for 20 to 30 minutes. If your car is not too old the glue will over time give that new car smell for a while.

The reason you don't want to be in a car with ozone is because our bodies do not know how to process O3.

Now, you don't need to build or buy an ozone machine. Go to your local water damage company. The ones that remove wet carpet and clean up the water from floods or water heaters and dry out your house.

You should be able to rent an ozone machine from them with a hefty deposit that would be returned when the machine is returned.

I charge $35 to do a car. You should be able to rent their machine for $50 or so and do the entire fleet of cars in your neighborhood.

I can do 10 cars a day at the used car lot with one machine.

Hopefully this answers some of the ozone questions and explains WHY it works.

If anyone has additional questions about this method of cleaning, please let me know.
