Thinking of trying to use Wipe New to fix hazed aluminum tailgate panel
So I've had success with wipe new in the past on plastic trim and headlights and I'm thinking of using these on the aluminum panel on the tailgate.
I've heard our tailgates have a clear coating to protect the brushed aluminum. It seems to me that the hazing looks like it's in the coating not really the aluminum (at least on my truck).
I'm thinking of cleaning the metal with Purple Power degreaser then taking 2000 and 3000 grit sandpaper on the tailgate. I don't think this will be tough enough to easily breach the clear coating, which would damage the brushed look.
Next, I'll apply Wipe New like I would on a prepped headlight lens.
I put a dab Wipe New on the tailgate today which makes me think this may actually work. The results can be seen below. The parts that look like nice shiny metal have the Wipe New on it. The chalky spots are the original.
Any thoughts?
