Door Compatibility List
Hello All,
I have googled for one and just can't find what I am looking for. I have a 1988 F150 XLT Lariat. I need 2 "new" doors. I have the opportunity to buy a passenger door from a 1987 F150.
Will that one fit?
Is there a list of year and doors that are interchangeable?
Thanks,
Danno

The 87 & 88 are nearly identical, (my 87 has an 88 front clip) so you should be fine. any of the (brick nose) Generation 8 (1987–1991) should fit, the Generation 9 has different vent windows for sure, they have the front point beveled off. The Gen 7 doors might fit

The doors changed in '82 when the lock button went from the door panel to the sill. It changed again in '95 when side-impact beams were mandated. But any '80-96 & '97 >8500GVWR F-series/Bronco door can be made to fit any of those trucks. There were also some minor changes to the size of the hole for the wiring harness duct, and the lock cylinder.
The only significant catch is the mirror mounting points. Once holes are drilled for a mirror, it's hard to swap a different style of mirror on without exposing some holes.

^^ I'd agree with everything Steve posted; good info.
Only thing I'd put in is that the side impact beams came out in 94 (in Canada anyway) and they were identified by a small body line at the very bottom of the door. The line was a sales help thing so a salesman could point out a truck and say "this one has the side impact beams".
As it was explained to me at the time anyway.
