Default blacked out bumpers?

Anyone with pictures of their bumpers painted or powder coated? I'm starting to have my bumpers rust. I'm considering having the chrome stripped so I can shave the carriage bolts and weld them in place so it will be smooth. A old hot rodding trick. Think it would be to much black?

The cost of new GOOD chromed bumpers are high and to have them redone is to.

I painted mine with a rattle can of bedliner.

It wasn't chrome, it was grey. Did the same with my rear bumper too.

I rattle canned mine matte black. Heres a before and after. I also painted my grille and headlight bezels to match the bumper. I think it looks pretty good myself.

I painted mine primer for now but I am going to color key them after I paint the truck. My 05 F150 is colored keyed like that so I figure why not make old school meet new school.

Default do it, it'd be great!

hey, nice truck. love that generation. but yeah, i'd say do it for sure. too much black, are you serious? some of the best looking trucks are black out completely, everything black. I'd say yours would too.

but if it's starting to rust, my advice would be to grind all the rust right off. then spray it with paint if you want to, but i would suggest you use spray-on bedliner or a similar product. it's rubbery so it should protect the truck from scratches and from the part ever rusting again.

I'll post some pics of my father's 1999. she was starting to rust along some of the bottom of the sides, and on the front bumper. we did those black, and did the back bumper, grille, and mirror caps for looks

it was done with a product called rocker gaurd, its a rubbery substance that comes in spray cans. it comes in black or beige, and the best part is that it can be painted over. we kept the black cause it looks good, even using it as paint on other parts. my father got it at canadian tire.

it looks good as paint even though it can be painted over, and the rubber like qualities protect from scratches and further rust if the previous rust is removed first.

stuff like that, or just spray bedliner would be the best choice.

heres the pics, first one is the truck before it was done and the couple after are of her after the paintjob was done.

I also did the same with my truck, as well as the back bumper, took me a day just got a wire grinder and took off all the paint. Looks great well worth it in my opinion. Especially on a black truck !
