If the EEC is throwing codes that don't apply to your truck, then the EEC is probably the wrong one for the truck. I'd complain to the EEC supplier, and try to get the right one. Look at the top L section of this diagram, pin number 84:

That should not be active on your truck, but the code says it is. Since the truck has no wiring for it, the EEC is setting a fault code for the missing wiring. But (my interpretation is that) it's actually just the wrong EEC.
You should put all the truck's details into your signature:

TOTALLY makes sense! Thank you! This is the THIRD EEC they have sent me! Not sure I want to keep going back to them....
Could it be a programming issue? All the units come with the sticker, "This unit may need to be programmed before it will work properly...."
Another top Ford tech said I should find one at a junkyard - but how likely am I to be able to find one that matches? Looks like I'd be looking forever......
Thanks....

Can you find a spec sheet like those below with my truck?
Or tell me where I can find one?
TIA,

Where in the world can I find the correct EEC for my truck? Seems like I'd be looking forever in a junkyards......here is the original: The 3 I got so far were from Auto Zone - Advance Auto could not find one.

Stay OUT of the zone. I wouldn't buy anything from them, regardless. If my truck stalled in front of the zone, and I only needed a dirty rag to get it running again, I'd push it somewhere else. The sticker saying they don't know if it needs programming is a big clue that they don't know what they're doing. No EEC-IV needs any programming - they use only PROM chips; not EEPROM. Once it's burned for a particular vehicle & year, it's programmed forever.
Yes, junkyarding takes a while, but you end up with factory parts - not something butchered by the zone. I love JYing, and any time I find a part for these trucks (not necessarily one of MINE) at a good price, I snag it, and throw it into my hoard in case someone else needs it & can't find one locally. This one has a slightly-different calibration than your truck came with, but it should work fine since it's programmed for a '96 5.0L & E4OD:

I'll PM you my e-mail in case you decide you want it.
What "spec sheet" are you asking about? Both of the diagrams I posted that you quoted apply to your truck. The EEC pinout shows all '87-96 EECs, including yours - you just ignore the pins whose description doesn't apply to your truck (4R70W only, etc.). The VC label diagram also applies to your truck, but your truck's label is on the driver's door jamb (B-pillar).

As to the EEC pinout diagram, the upper right one is the only one for '96, and the C 1027 threw me.
SHOCKED it has so many pins not used when the other EEC's use most of them - seems weird.

They standardized the connector for EEC-V, but it's still really just a modified EEC-IV hiding in an EEC-V case. There are only maybe 6 new circuits compared to '87-95 EEC-IVs, despite the number of available pins. And yours doesn't necessarily use all 6 of those, or all the older pins.

How in the world did you get to know so much about the computers? You a Ford mechanic?

I was for a while. But I learned most of what I know by browsing JYs, reading Haynes, and rewiring/modernizing several vehicles. Click my signature link, scroll UP to the top of the page, and click Steve83 to see most of them. I also have most of the service manuals for Fords of this era, and I read them.

WOW! I'm impressed.........thanks for shipping the EEC so quickly - can't wait to get it installed & have my sweet '96 back. Love that truck so much I wouldn't take a new one for it. But then..........
