Im new here and I'm sure it has been covered ad nauseam in the past, but how do I figure out what transmission i have? 96 f150, 5.0, 4x4, 5 speed manual. I was told it's a zf series, a Mazda, i don't know what the door jamb sticker says because I don't know how to decipher it... and my synchros are going out

Mazda M5od. ZF would have a very low first and was installed in f150 and larger trucks

How can you tell/ how do you know? I can certainly drive around without going into first although I typically do use first

ZF5 trannys didn't come in F150s in 96. Its an M5OD unless it has been swapped. Take a pic of the transmission itself and we can tell you for sure.

Horizontal/vertical ribbing is m5od.

Diagonal ribbing is ZF

Both are aluminum.

Sounds like you guys know your stuff. I'm 99% sure the tranny is stock, i bought it with only 75000 miles. Thanks!
