Oil pan gasket

Oil pan gasket
Have a 96 5.8l 4x4 and the oil pan is very wet around the rear 1/3 of the pan, it's coming from the gasket.
Is it easy to replace the gasket with the minimal clearance, hoping I don't have to lift the motor.

It is possible with the 1 piece gasket to fish a new one down around the oil pump pickup and fit it in there. But it's not easy, it's a real PITA and it's really difficult to clean the gasket surfaces properly and apply the RTX in the 4 corners. But it can be done.
About 1/2 way through, you'll probably wish you'd lifted the motor, but sometimes that causes a whole bunch of unforeseen problems too (20 year old bolts etc.)
Maybe you'll get lucky just snugging the bolts.

It doesn't matter if it's 2- or 4WD; V8s have to come out to do it right. Click these & read the captions:

I've changed oil pan gasket on a 5.0 and a 4.9, just dropped the pan down the couple inches it will move. Used one piece gasket and just fished it around the pan. I like to use a Felpro gasket and blue thread lock, Permatex The Right Stuff if needed at corners.
