Id upgrade the internals, unless your ganna run low boost. Not to sure how the stock 5.8 handles forced induction, but depending on your budget, id go with forged internals, that way you can run higher boost and get more power

i have not that huge of a budget, what do you mean by forged internals? and my buddy thought that just a little honda civic turbo would give it just a little boost and make it whistle like my dads f350 5" turbo

im only 16 so i dont have a huge budget, but my friend suggested a honda civic-like turbo so it wont have too much boost but still give it a bit of a whistle and oomph like my dads 06 f350 turbo diesel, and im new to this site what do you mean by forged internals?

When you say 'one for a honda civic' remember that engine is much smaller so you'll be spinning the turbo way faster (read: more heat) which isn't good. I'd say go with a bigger turbo and just control its airflow with a controller. That way you won't have to use a FMIC which makes life a lot easier for plumbing. Should be good to go if you can get a tune. Stock internals I'm sure can handle low boost pressure.

Have fun!

i second building the engine to support a PROPER forced induction set up, a hondas tenny turbo is not going to let the big v8 breaht well, as well as its going to be spinning way faster on the v8 to just try to keep up. if anything the more economical way to ad more power would be a belt driven supercharger, cheaper easy instal and most of them are low boost. if you want a truck that whistles tape a few to the hood turbo cars and trubo diesels are way different in sounds. as for budgeting it be better to save up and do it right the first go. do some research in turbochargers and the 5.8l specs I am 100% sure someone has already done so. another issue would be the odb1 system as well as the fuel injection systems you often need more fuel for more air and that would need to be upgraded as well to support the turbo. low boost turbos too. Around here ive seen some dumb stuff like a turbo 99 honda crv amung other stupid things on Ricers around town what sets the true car builders apart is that the ones who take the time and gather knowledge then execute it with the correct internals fuel system computers plumbing gauges and smarts.

I have plans on Supercharging my project car and have found out a wealth of information on forced induction. my car currently is naturally aspirated and I recently dialed everything in with the aid of a dyno and i managed to get 362 RWHP from my car. Not bad considering its a bit over 2900lbs with me in it

He has OBD2 I'm thinking with it being a '96. So he has MAF, and therefore a tunable ECU I would imagine. So he's miles ahead stock than someone like me ('90 with OBD-1 SD and untunable ECU). But yes, supercharger is probably a LOT easier and more reliable for the price.

Man, you need to REALLY, REALLY spend a lot of time and effort researching this idea of yours before you spend even 1 dollar on this project. It has been done many times by lots of people and is definitely possible, but you have a lot of prep to do before you can make it happen. You can slap a Supercharger on it no problem but will the engine hold up to even 5 psi? What about the trans? If you have 100k miles or more and you add 40% more torque/hp (optimistic guess) you're going to be tearing it down soon and rebuilding anyways...Yeah, I'm old! lol

You can do it anyway you want but as it has posted above...you would be MUCH better off doing it correctly from the start and you will be able to enjoy it far longer and abuse it more! Forged crank/rods/pistons. ARP everything fasteners. Upgraded oil system. upgraded injectors. Upgraded cooling system. Upgraded transmission. It goes on and on....

Just a thought!
