Default grinding noise under acceleration

I have a 96 f150 4x4 with an E40D trans, ive noticed that when im cruising down the road if i give it the slightest bit of acceleration i get a grinding and scraping noise, if i let off or give it more it goes away, it only does it while in gear. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Examine the engine mounts, fan & shroud, u-joints, rear differential companion flange & pinion nut, front & rear wheel bearings, & exhaust. If necessary, chock the front tires fore&aft, put the rear axle on jack stands, and have an assistant drive it while you crawl around underneath with a mechanic's stethoscope to pinpoint the source.
